Welcome to the PhotoPsychology Website

PhotoPsychology refers to a body of research I have assembled that examines both the historical interactions between photography and psychology and the psychological underpinnings of the art of photography itself. From PhotoPsychology has emerged Reading Pictures which is my new, systematic approach to looking at photographs in ways that lead to insights into the personal characteristics of the photographer, a deeper appreciation of the essence of photographs, and a richer aesthetic experience of them.

On this website you can learn about PhotoPsychology and Reading Pictures in several ways. There are lessons based on my PowerPoint presentations, essays on the “About” Pages and a bibliography.

I frequently lecture, judge and conduct workshops for photographic societies, artists’ collectives and art centers throughout the tri-state region and am an active member of the Soho Photo Gallery in New York City. My current activities can be found in the News section below.

A listing of my presentation topics is available on this site. You may contact me for speaking or judging at your organization using the Contact Me page.
